Outlook Search Not Returning Recent Emails
Outlook search may not return emails received in the last 24 hours due to indexing delay.
Details
**Cause:** The Windows Search index may take up to 24 hours to index new emails after a large synchronisation or profile migration.
**Symptoms:**
- User searches for a recent email but it does not appear in results
- The email is visible in the inbox but not found by search
💡 Workaround
**For users:** Search via Outlook Web (mail.office.com) which uses the server-side index and is always current.
**For IT:** Open Outlook → File → Options → Search → Indexing Options → Modify → ensure Outlook data file is included → Advanced → Rebuild index. Allow 1–2 hours.
